A Journey Through Majestic Mountains to Machu Picchu

Embark on an unforgettable 4-day adventure through the spectacular landscapes of the Peruvian Andes on the Salkantay Trek. This scenic trek combines snow-capped mountains, turquoise lagoons, cloud forests, and lush tropical landscapes before reaching the magnificent Machu Picchu.

The Salkantay Trek is an ideal choice for adventurous travelers looking to experience the natural beauty of the Andes while following one of the most impressive trekking routes in Peru. Along the way, you will discover remote landscapes, traditional communities, and the incredible diversity of ecosystems surrounding the Salkantay Mountain.

After several days of trekking through breathtaking scenery, the journey concludes with a visit to Machu Picchu, one of the world’s most remarkable archaeological wonders.

Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Salkantaypampa
  • Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. You will travel by private transportation toward the starting point of the trek.
  • After breakfast, you will begin hiking toward the spectacular Humantay Lake, known for its turquoise waters and impressive mountain surroundings. After enjoying the views and taking photographs, you will continue toward Soraypampa.
  • The trek continues through increasingly impressive Andean landscapes until reaching the campsite, where you will enjoy dinner and spend the night surrounded by the mountains.
  • Overnight at the campsite.
Day 2: Salkantaypampa – Salkantay Pass – Collpapampa
  • After breakfast, you will begin the most challenging section of the trek toward the Salkantay Pass, located at approximately 4,630 meters (15,190 feet) above sea level.
  • From the pass, you will enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks before beginning the descent through changing landscapes.
  • As you continue, the scenery gradually transforms from high-altitude mountains into greener valleys and cloud forest. You will arrive at the campsite in Collpapampa, where you can rest and enjoy dinner.
  • Overnight at the campsite.
Day 3: Collpapampa – La Playa – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes
  • After breakfast, you will continue hiking through lush vegetation, waterfalls, rivers, and tropical landscapes.
  • The route will take you through small local communities and plantations as you gradually approach the Machu Picchu region.
  • After reaching Hidroelectrica, you will continue toward Aguas Calientes, either by train or on foot depending on the selected service and itinerary.
  • Upon arrival, you will check into your hotel and have the evening free to relax and explore the town.
  • Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
Day 4: Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco
  • Early in the morning, you will travel by bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. Once inside the archaeological sanctuary, your professional guide will lead you through the designated visiting circuit.
  • Discover the fascinating history, architecture, and cultural significance of this extraordinary Inca citadel while enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
  • After the visit, you will return to Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time for lunch before boarding the train back toward the Sacred Valley.
  • Upon arrival at the designated train station, transportation will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.
  • Arrival in Cusco in the evening.

  • Bring appropriate trekking shoes: Waterproof and comfortable hiking boots are highly recommended.
  • Dress in layers: Temperatures can vary considerably between the high mountains and the warmer cloud forest.
  • Bring rain protection: Weather conditions can change quickly, especially during the rainy season.
  • Carry a small backpack: Take only essential personal belongings during the trek.
  • Bring sun protection: Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat are essential at high altitude.
