Experience the magic of the Inca Trail on this unforgettable 2-day trek to Machu Picchu. This shorter version of the classic Inca Trail is perfect for travelers who want to enjoy the historic Inca route without committing to a longer multi-day trek.
The journey takes you through beautiful cloud-forest landscapes and ancient archaeological sites, including the impressive Wiñay Wayna. You will enter Machu Picchu through Sun Gate (Inti Punku), offering your first spectacular view of the legendary Inca citadel.
With a combination of hiking, history, nature, and breathtaking scenery, the Short Inca Trail provides an excellent introduction to one of Peru’s most iconic experiences.
- Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. You will travel by tourist transportation to the train station and board the train toward Km 104, where the Short Inca Trail begins.
- After crossing the checkpoint, you will start hiking through the lush cloud forest. The trail gradually ascends while offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and vegetation.
- Along the way, you will visit the spectacular archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna, an impressive Inca complex built into the mountainside. Your professional guide will explain its history and importance within the Inca Trail.
- After exploring the site, you will continue toward Inti Punku (Sun Gate). From this viewpoint, you will enjoy your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu.
- You will then continue along the trail toward the area of Machu Picchu before traveling to Aguas Calientes, where you will check into your hotel and have the evening free to relax.
- Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
- After breakfast, you will take the bus from Aguas Calientes to the entrance of Machu Picchu.
- Your professional guide will lead you through the designated visiting circuit, introducing you to the history, architecture, and cultural significance of the ancient Inca citadel.
- You will have time to admire the spectacular surroundings and take photographs according to the regulations established for visitors.
- After the guided tour, you will return to Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time for lunch before boarding your train back toward the Sacred Valley.
- Upon arrival at the designated train station, transportation will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.
