This full-day adventure combines scenic drives through picturesque Andean villages with a rewarding hike to one of Cusco’s most iconic high-altitude lakes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy impressive mountain landscapes, learn about the cultural importance of the region, and admire the sacred Salkantay Mountain, one of the most revered peaks in Inca tradition. Upon reaching the lake, you’ll be rewarded with crystal-clear waters whose vibrant blue-green color creates one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Peru.

  • Early Morning Hotel Pick-up: Your journey begins before sunrise with hotel pick-up in Cusco. Travel northwest through the scenic Anta Province, passing charming Andean communities, fertile valleys, and spectacular mountain landscapes while your guide introduces you to the history and geography of the region.
  • Breakfast: After approximately two hours of travel, arrive in the village of Mollepata, where you'll enjoy a hearty breakfast at a local restaurant. Take this opportunity to prepare for the day's adventure while surrounded by beautiful countryside scenery.
  • Transfer to Soraypampa: Continue by vehicle toward Soraypampa, the starting point of the hike, located at approximately 3,900 meters (12,800 feet) above sea level. Along the way, admire breathtaking views of the towering Humantay and Salkantay glaciers. Before beginning the hike, your guide will provide safety instructions and recommendations for walking comfortably at high altitude.
  • Hike to Humantay Lake: Begin the uphill hike toward Humantay Lake, following a mountain trail that gradually ascends through spectacular Andean landscapes. During the trek, you'll observe native vegetation, grazing alpacas, and panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and snow-covered peaks. The guide will explain the spiritual significance of these mountains, which have been considered sacred by Andean communities since Inca times.
  • The hike is physically demanding due to the altitude, but frequent stops allow you to rest, take photographs, and fully appreciate the incredible scenery surrounding you.
  • Arrival at Humantay Lake: Reach the stunning Humantay Lake, famous for its brilliant turquoise waters created by glacial minerals reflecting the sunlight. Enjoy free time to relax, admire the peaceful atmosphere, capture unforgettable photographs, and take in the breathtaking beauty of this remarkable natural wonder. Your guide will share insights into the geological formation of the lake and its importance within Andean culture and local traditions.
  • Return Hike: After enjoying the lake, begin the descent back to Soraypampa along the same trail. The downhill hike offers new perspectives of the surrounding mountains and valleys, providing additional opportunities for photography.
  • Lunch: Upon returning to Mollepata, enjoy a delicious buffet lunch featuring regional specialties before beginning the journey back to Cusco.
  • Return to Cusco: Relax during the scenic drive back to Cusco while enjoying one last look at the magnificent Andean landscapes. Arrive in the city during the late afternoon, where the tour concludes with drop-off near the historic center.
